Minister Irene Jackson Smith was born on March 19, 1954, in Dania Beach, Florida (Broward County) to the late Ulysses and Annie Lee King Jackson.
She received her formal education in the Bulloch County Public School System.
Irene had a love for helping and caring for others which led to her career as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). She worked in the healthcare field as an LPN for over 30 years. She had an immense passion for working with victims of domestic violence. She accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile.
At the time of her illness, she was employed at Willingway Hospital.
She was a member of the St. Mary’s Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a minister, teacher, and in various other departments. She always had a positive, encouraging, uplifting word for everyone she encountered.
Irene Jackson Smith departed this life on Friday, March 29, 2024, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her father, Ulysses Jackson, her mother, Annie Lee King Jackson, sisters, Mary Lester, Ula Mae Bostic, and Quincy Jackson her brother.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her husband Eugene Smith, Sr., of Statesboro, GA; sons Waymon Maurice (Meshell) Lester of Statesboro, GA; Raymon (Angela) Lester of Rex, GA; Wayne (Cheryl) Lester of Claxton, GA; three daughters Anna Rene (John) McCaskill of Dacula, GA; Iresa Lester (Damian) Moore of Albany, GA; and Imona Brianna Lester of Statesboro, GA; She leaves behind brothers: Wesley (Carolyn) Jackson of Register, GA; Andrew Jackson of Statesboro, GA; and June Jackson of Jacksonville, GA, thirteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A viewing for Minister Smith will be held, on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M., at the funeral home.
The funeral service for Minister Irene Jackson Smith, will be held at 3 P.M., Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the St Mary's Missionary Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Timotheus Mincey, officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
