With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mr. Mike Lastinger, age 66, of Statesboro, who passed on August 31st, 2025.
He was born in Valdosta, Ga.to the late Claude Lastinger and Betty Jo Long.
Surviving are his three children; Staci Lastinger Peavy (Stephen), Amber Thompson (Kevin), and Michael Lastinger (Bobileigh); seven grandchildren, Faith, Zachary, Ashlyn, Levi, Kadence, Wren, and Kaleb; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Rene Dees, Vicki Mooney, Jeff Lastinger, and Claudette Akins.
Mike was a Field Artillery Specialist in the Army for 10 years from 1980-1990, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. After serving his country, he then became a truck driver, and this career spanned 20 years.
Mike was an avid sports fan who never missed the opportunity to argue with the referee at any game. His love for sports started years ago when he played high school football. He had an infectious personality and a strong wit. He was the life of any party and never met a stranger. He also had a love for boxing and playing guitar. You could always find him debating with anyone on any topic, even if he was wrong, but you could bet he would make it interesting and funny. His absence will be felt, and he will be missed greatly.
The family extends a special thanks to all of his caregivers in the recent months who helped make his days so much better.
A memorial service will be held at Joiner Anderson Funeral Home on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 4:00 pm.
