
We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Sister, Grandmother and Great-grandmother Melba Jean Griner Jeffers, age 85, of Sylvania, Ga on January 16, 2023 at Magnolia Senior Living, Loganville, GA, surrounded by loved ones.
Jean was born in Screven County on July 8, 1937 to Lee Holmes Griner and Marie Jane Joyner Griner and was reared in the McDonald Baptist Church.
She graduated with the Screven County High School Class of 1955. In June, 1955 she married Stacy Jeffers, and they raised their family in Sylvania until the early 1970s. They then moved and lived in Gwinnett County until their retirement took them to Young Harris, Ga and their beloved mountains.
After Stacy’s death in 1996, Jean moved back to Sylvania where she resided until her passing. For many years she enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She attended First Baptist Sylvania until her health began to fail. Jean was an Organizing Member of the Suwanee Creek Chapter, NSDAR along with her daughter and granddaughters.
Survivors include: her children, Melisa Jeffers, Charlene and Ronnie Mitchell, Bill and Kim Jeffers; seven grandchildren: Kelly and Wes Cooper, Laura Eisele, Chris and Josh McCoy, Eric Mitchell, Jason Jeffers, Jamie and Paige Jeffers, Ashley and Jess Davis; twelve great-grandchildren: Peyton, Avery Jean, Annie Claire, Tipton, Briggs, Lawson, Brooks, Braxton, Hudson, Colton, Landon and Graham; along with a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves two precious siblings, Edwin (Elaine) Griner and Linda (Joe) Morris to mourn her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband Stacy Jeffers; her siblings: Lewis Griner, Lavaughn Griner, Francis Godbee, and Dorothy Anderson; and great-grandson Mason Davis.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Sylvania, GA. Graveside services will be immediately following at Screven Memorial Cemetery.
