Mary A. Parrish

Mrs. Mary A. Parrish, age 92, entered rest peacefully Sunday, March 3, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her family and under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.

The Bulloch County native was the daughter of the late Nero and Emma Andrews Hopps and was born in Quincy Florida. At an early age she moved to Port St Joe, FL. After graduating high school, she moved to Detroit, Michigan and later to Statesboro Georgia.

Mrs. Parrish retired from Georgia Southern University after thirty years where she was employed as a custodial supervisor.

As a pillar of the community, she always helped whoever she could and never met a stranger. “Ms. Mary '' as she was affectionately known, had a genuine love for people.

Ms. Mary was a member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, where she served on many different boards within the church as well as other organizations in the community. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Willie A. Parrish, her sons, Harold Parrish, and Ivan Parrish; sisters, Liz Walker, Sarah Wasner, and Willie Mae Mason; brothers, Nero Parrish, Jr., Wiley, Frank Hopps and Jimmie Hopps.

Left to cherish her legacy of love are, her son and daughters-in-law, Gary Charles (Gladys) Parrish and Louvenia Parrish; sisters; Corine Torrey, Callie Glenn, Peggy Stallworth, and Alice Faye Dixson; grandchildren, Gary William Artis Parrish (Patrice), Corey Germaine Parrish, Reginald Parrish (Stacy), Harold Artis Parrish, Timothy Parrish(Kimberly), Anthony Cone Parrish, Lenora Parrish, Tanika Parrish, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, many loving relatives she was mother to as well as many close friends whom she cherished.

A viewing for Mrs. Mary A Parrish will be held Friday, March 8, 2024, in the chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, from the hours of 4 pm to 7 pm. Family visitation will begin at 6 pm. 

Mrs. Parrish will lie in state on the day of service, from 1 pm until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.

The funeral service for Mrs. Parrish will be held at 2 pm, Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church with the pastor, Elder Gary Wallace, officiating. Burial will follow in the Bulloch Memorial Gardens.
