August 19, 1962 - May 11, 2024

Jacquelyn “Lynde” Johnson, age 61, entered the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus, along with her loving husband Lee Johnson and their two fur babies Leroy and Lucy on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Lynde was born in Sylvania, GA. She spent most of her childhood and some of her adult life residing in Jenkins County, GA, but eventually called Statesboro, GA her home. She was the Valedictorian of the 1980 graduating class from Buckhead Academy in Jenkins County, GA. In 1994, Lynde graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, GA with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.

As a child, Lynde enjoyed spending time in nature, competing in many sports, and challenging herself academically. She loved being able to run next door for sleepovers and to spend quality time in the kitchen with her Grandma Wiggins. Upon graduating high school, Lynde pursued a career as a licensed Cosmetologist, and eventually devoted her time to staying home to love and support her three young daughters. Later, she welcomed her son while simultaneously completing her final year of nursing school, a feat that remains impressive to her loved ones to this day. Throughout her career, Lynde dedicated her skills as a labor and delivery and mother-baby nurse at hospitals in Bulloch and Chatham counties, as well as, in the state of California. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she took on the challenge of travel nursing in areas known to be facing the most hardship.

Through mutual friends, she met the love of her life, Lee, and the two were married shortly after. They were looking forward to celebrating their upcoming 17th wedding anniversary. Lynde and Lee were active members at First Baptist Church of Statesboro and prior to that, Elam Baptist Church of Jenkins County where they volunteered as elementary Sunday School teachers. They enjoyed traveling, boating, riding their horses, and displaying their numerous ski skills on both water and snow. They loved spending time with their families and many friends. Lynde took great pride in baking and elaborately decorating cakes and sweets for others while also competitively running in marathons and various races. Lynde and Lee were both adventure seekers, and no one could argue that they didn’t live life to it’s fullest. Lynde was a beautiful soul, both inside and out.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Smith; her grandparents A.J. and Maggie Wiggins and Alvin and Lena Smith.

She is immensely missed by her children and their spouses, Christa (Luke) Zeigler, Hannah (James) Conner, Blakely (Ryan) Sellars, Tyler (Jessica) Collins, Racheal (Ronnie) Johnson, Justin (Kassi) Johnson, and Cody Johnson; her grandchildren, Kinsley, Hattie, Sadie, Taverly, and Darcy Zeigler, Harper, Elliott, Rory, and Remi Conner, Skyler Collins, Blake and Kade Johnson, Tripp and Molli Teem, Kailee Ann Amerson, Brighton Johnson, and Blaire Johnson; her mother, Jackie Smith; her brother Thomas (Teresa) Smith; and numerous extended family members.

Visitation is 10 until 12 Thursday at Elam Baptist Church with funeral service at 12 pm May 16.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Collins, Luke Zeigler, James Conner, Rory Conner, Steve Williams, Chris Howell, and Will Howell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lisa Williams, Cindy West, Kim Howell, Suzette Smith, and Teresa Tucker.
