May 26, 1931  -  July 6, 2025

Mr. Linwood Gordon Bowman, affectionately known as “Bub,” age 94, passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He was a native of Bulloch County and the son of Andrew Bowman and Ethel Conner Bowman. He proudly served his country, being mobilized in 1950 with the United States Army National Guard and spent three years on active duty during the Korean Conflict.

Following his military service, he began his career in the grocery business. He retired after more than 40 years and then became a school bus driver for approximately 10 years.

Known for his quick wit and unwavering love, Bub was the steady presence in the lives of those who knew him. He loved playing cards, especially Hand and Foot, with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing on the Ogeechee River, watching Georgia Southern sports, relaxing with a good Western, and working in his garden growing vegetables. He also found joy spending time in his shop woodworking. But above all, he treasured being with his family—especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren—whether telling stories, playing cards, or simply being together.

A man of deep faith, he was a devoted member of Statesboro Primitive Baptist Church for over 50 years. He cherished reading scripture and talking about the Lord.

Linwood was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his faith, family, and friends. His steady presence, quick wit, stories, life lessons, and wisdom will live on through his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ethel Bowman McCorkle; his stepfather, Grady McCorkle; his brothers, Earl Bowman, Harold Bowman, and Ted McCorkle; and great-grandparents, Gordon and Mamie Conner.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 75 years, Jewell Allen Bowman; son, Larry (Carol) Bowman; daughters, Vickie (Frank) Banta and Bonnie Rushing; and seven grandchildren: David (Loretta) Bowman, Laura Bowman Stiles (Josh), Kelli Rushing Mincey (Ricky), Zach Banta, Sara Beth Banta, Eric Banta (Tera), and Josh Banta (Michelle). He was blessed with 13 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are his brother, Kenneth McCorkle; sisters-in-law, Nancy McCorkle, Margie Denmark, and Shelvie Hagan; and many nieces and nephews who were dear to him.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM, with Elder Randy Waters officiating.

He will be laid to rest at Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be David Bowman, Zach Banta, Eric Banta, Josh Banta, Ricky Mincey, and Brian Hagan.
