Mrs. Juanella E. Calles, age 86, departed this life, Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
She was the daughter of the late Eli and Mary Groover Linder. She was raised and lovingly cared for by her stepmother, the Late Carrie Bell Morgan.
At an early age she became a follower of Jesus Christ and joined the Antioch Baptist Church, Stilson, Ga.
She grew up in Stilson, Ga and received her early education in the Bulloch County School System and then attended Alfred E. Beach High School in Savannah, Ga. Upon graduation Juanella attended Savannah State College.
While in Savannah, Juanella met and courted Joseph Calles, and they married and moved to Statesboro, Georgia.
Juanella joined the Community Action Center and enthusiastically worked as a community aid, serving individuals and families throughout Bulloch County. After 15 years of community outreach, Juanella decided to transition to the Bulloch County Board of Education and worked as a paraprofessional until her retirement.
She was a member of the Church of Truth where she served as a member of the mother board. Mrs. Calles found special joy in working with her prayer group and specializing in outreach to the sick and shut in.
She leaves to cherish her amazing memory, a sister Mary Lou Johnson; (Lloyd Daniels), five loving children, Vivian Johnson (Dexter) of Lansdale, Pa; Lavette Calles, Craig Calles and Reginal Calles (Rosalind) all of Statesboro, Ga, and Michelle Calles (Craig) of Savannah, Ga; a special nephew, Gregory Morgan (Faye) of Augusta, Ga; twelve grandchildren, Tally Butler (Jana) of Statesboro, Ga, Jermain Calles (Sharlene) of Jacksonville, Fl, Jasmine Calles of Statesboro, Ga, Craig Brinson (Khristal) of Madison, Fl, Tia Butler of Statesboro, Ga, Brittiny Calles of Statesboro, Ga, Jamal Johnson of Woodbridge, Va, Briana Calles of Atlanta, Ga, Justin Calles of Savannah, Ga, Briana Baker of Savannah, Ga, Gregory Morgan, II (Loren) and Tekiera Morgan of Fayetteville, NC; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Pankey Lee Calles and Lillie Mae Boyd both of Augusta, Ga; Walter “Jimmy” Gilmore Delaware, Md and Robert Mosely, of Augusta, Ga; 18 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A public viewing for Mrs. Calles will be held, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, January 13, 2023, at Hill’s Mortuary.
The funeral service for Mrs. Juanella E. Calles, will be held, Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Ben Samuel Hill Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Maurice Hill, officiating. Burial will be in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
