Jeanette Green Lewis, born September 8, 1940, was reunited with her beloved late husband Bobby Wallace Lewis on July 30, 2023. She lived in Metter, Georgia for most of her life, but always considered Oak Park her earthly “home.” She passed away July 30, 2023, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia after a valiant battle with cancer.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her aforementioned husband, as well as her parents Thomas Green and Rachel Green, and her beloved grandmother Hettie Pearl. Also preceding her in death were her brother David Green, her son Dannell Thomas Cannon, and her infant son Jerry Cannon. She is survived by her brothers Jerry Green (wife Linda) and Thomas “Tommy” Green (wife Sue), sisters Jane Hardee (husband Jerry) and Patty Cockman (husband John), son Wayne “Rabbit” Cannon, a daughter in law who became a daughter to her, Melinda “Lynn” Cannon, her daughters Pam Lewis Earls, Sandra Lewis, and Dana Joy Lewis (and Joy’s wife Jean), her faithful dog Buddy, and the many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren she loved so dearly.
If you asked Jeannette what she was most thankful for, she’d no doubt tell you the grandkids she’d been blessed with. She was able to meet most of her newest great great grandbabies at a surprise Mother’s Day party this past May, where she enjoyed the company of many members of her beloved family, an event she talked about until the end of her earthly life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone who wishes to remember their mom/granny/sister/aunt Jeanette, do so by making a small donation to Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro or to Metter Animal Shelter, where she found her best friend Buddy.
Visitation will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 10 until 11 o’clock in the morning at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.
The funeral service will follow after the visitation on held Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11 o’clock in the morning at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter.
A private graveside will follow.
