
Mr. Gene Washington, age 74, entered rest, Saturday 3, 2022, at his residence. The Bulloch County native was the tenth child born to the late Welbert and Reana Bryant Washington.
Mr. Washington received his formal education in the public school system of Bulloch County Georgia and was a graduate of the William James High School Class of 1966. He furthered his education by attending the Georgia Southern College, where he received a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice.
Mr. Gene Washington, proudly served his country in the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War. He received numerous service metals such as, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, a Combat Infantryman's Badge, a Silver Star and a Purple Heart.
“Gene” was a former United States Postal Worker and a former employee of TJ Morris Company.
He was a faithful and dedicated member of the Summer Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served as pianist and treasurer of Sunday School Department.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Willie Ed Washington, Jessie Washington, Johnny Roy Washington, Susie Blackmon, Bernestine Keel, Eva K. Lewis, Gloria Hendrix and Blondie Davis.
He is survived by his brother, Doyle (Betty) Washington, Indianapolis, IN, a sister, Mattie Sanders, Indianapolis, IN, a special nephew, Allen Washington, Statesboro, GA, a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
A walk through-viewing for Mr. Washington, will be held Friday, September 16, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
Mr. Washington will lie-in-state at the church on the day of service, from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. There will be no viewing after the eulogy.
The funeral service for Mr. Gene Washington will be held, 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Summer Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Raphele Smith, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
Final rites have been entrusted to Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.
