Gary Curtis Hamon

March 11, 1955 - March 26, 2023

Gary Curtis Hamon, 68, flew away in the morning March 26, 2023. He was born March 11, 1955, to Billy Gene and Dorothy Louise Aycock Hamon in Millen, GA. Gary’s beloved grandfather, Pa Aycock, said his heart was as big as a washtub and his loyalty knew no bounds. He had a special soft spot for anyone or anything who was lonely, lost or left behind for any reason.

His parents’ service to the Church of God led the family to move frequently during Gary’s childhood, but that big heart of his made it easy for Gary to make new friends throughout his life. Gary loved his family, sports, music, a good book and a juicy conspiracy theory. He’s joined hands again in heaven with his mother, Dot, and his sister, Lori Dill and all the other family, friends and assorted pets who preceded him in death.

Gary was a natural athlete who excelled at any sport he tried. He enjoyed watching games so much that he was known to view bowling and putt-putt tournaments when no better content could be found. He had an artistic eye and, as a result, was a successful professional portrait photographer and ran his own business for many years. He was a skilled carpenter and handyman and could fix anything he put his mind to.

Gary is survived by his pride and joy, his four children: Amy (Joel) Wright of Albany, GA, Taylor (Mariah) Hamon of Chattanooga, TN, Thomas (PJ) McKay of Cleveland, TN, and Sydney Hamon of Chattanooga, TN, and his nine grandchildren: EJ, Lucy, Lizzie, Jack, Henry and Charlie Wright of Albany, GA and Alan, Rhia and Anna McKay of Cleveland, TN. He is also survived by his indefatigable father, BG (Marjorie) Hamon of Portal, GA, his besties/brothers, Keith (Daphne) Hamon of Macon, GA and Randy (Kathy) Hamon of Remer, MN and his cherished sister Julie (David) Wilson of Statesboro, GA and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and gold and silver friends from near and far.

Humble appreciation is extended to the staff at Heritage Inn and Rehabilitation Center in Statesboro, GA, who cared for Gary in his final years after a debilitating stroke left him unable to care for himself.

There will be a memorial service held at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at 2:00pm.
