Mrs. Evernease Gaines Hunter, age 89, entered rest, Thursday, May 16, 2024, at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Abraham and Emma Lee Jason Gaines, born October 26, 1934, in Sylvania, Georgia. She received her formal education in the Screven County School System.

At an early age she became a member of the Goloid United Methodist Church. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Ralph Hunter and to this union five children were born.

Mrs. Evernease Hunter was a former employee of Ann Hill Seamstress and was a retired employee of the Bulloch County Board of Education, where she retired in 2004 after more than twenty-five years of service as a bus driver.

Mrs. Hunter was a dedicated member of the Spring Head United Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir. She will always be remembered as a friend to many by showing great strength, wisdom and love to her family and community.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Hunter, a son, Ralph Hunter, Jr., daughters, Annette Hunter and Christine Hunter-Raymond, her brothers, Tommy (Lilian) Gaines and Lonnie L. Gaines, sisters, Maude (Roosevelt) Culver and Beauty Mae Dobson.

Those left to cherish her memories are, her daughters, Shirley Jones- Ryce, Statesboro, GA, and Patricia (Rev. Lavon) Alston, Newington, GA, sisters, Irene Williams, Toledo, OH, Reta Mae Bryant and Evelyn Gaines, both of Sylvania, GA, Louiser (Robert) Keel, Statesboro, GA, a sister-in-law, Lottie Gaines, Statesboro, GA, nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.

A viewing for Mrs. Hunter will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with family visitation from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. in the Chapel of Hill’s Mortuary, Inc.

The celebration of life service for Mrs. Evernease Gaines Hunter, will be held at, 11 A.M., Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Springhead United Methodist Church, with the Rev. William Reeves, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Final rites have been entrusted to Hill's Mortuary, Inc.
