July 9, 1942 - July 12, 2023
Mrs. Alice “Jannel” Starling, age 81, entered into her heavenly home on Wednesday July 12, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, surrounded by her loving family.
Jannel was born on July 9, 1942, in Bulloch County to the late A.J. Knight and Lorene Bradley Knight. She was raised in the Pigeye Community between Leefield and Stilson on a large farm as the youngest of five sisters. Jannel was a member of Leefield Baptist Church, attended Southeast Bulloch High School and graduated from Jenkins High School in Savannah in 1960. She attended Armstrong College and studied bookkeeping which led to her 16-year career as a bookkeeper for Williams Seafood Restaurant and Wholesale Company in Savannah. Later she opened her own interior design business, Jannel Starling Interiors. After a move to Destin, Florida, she decorated yachts as long as her health allowed. She and her husband Ronald moved back to the Nevils area in 2016 where Jannel was a member of Lawrence Baptist Church. Jannel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and MiMi, who cherished her time with her family. Her family and friends aside, her faith in the Lord sustained her. Most of all she worshiped the King of Kings and is now celebrating with Him in all His glory.
She is preceded in death by her parents, A.J. Knight and Lorene Bradley Knight Hart; her sister, Jacquelyn Knight Roach Horne; a nephew, Andrew “Andy” Roach; as well as her father and mother-in-law, Roland and Virginia Starling.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ronald Starling; her two sons, Victor Roland Starling and Matthew Knight Starling; her three grandchildren, Alexis Jannel Starling, Alivia Mique’ Starling, and Tyde Knight Starling; three sisters, Sue Ryals (Chris), Betty Minick, and Dorothy Fordham; a brother-in law, Mickey E. Starling (Ginny); her sister-in-law, Gina Kay Starling Wall (Pete); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
