On Monday, March 25, Bulloch County plans to convert the Langston Chapel Road at Lanier Drive intersection into an All-Way Stop intersection.

On Monday, March 25, 2024 Bulloch County Public Works plans to convert the Langston Chapel Road at Lanier Drive intersection into an All-Way Stop intersection.

Weather permitting, crews will be on site that day installing new striping and signs for this change.

Currently, traffic on Langston Chapel does not stop at the intersection, however this change will require traffic to stop at new stop signs there.

The County will also be installing additional warning signs to notify drivers of this change.

Drivers should use extra caution when driving through this area next week.

Commissioners requested intersection improvements after citizens concerns

The Bulloch County Board of Commissioners requested staff to perform a traffic study of the Langston Chapel Road at Lanier Drive intersection to consider making the intersection a Three-Way Stop.

After the study Brad Deal, County Engineer confirmed that Lanier Drive currently experiences long traffic queues from the intersection with Langston Chapel Road during some time periods.

During the afternoon peak hour, Lanier Drive currently has a level of service of E at the intersection, and is close to level of service F.

Converting the intersection into a Three-Way Stop would improve conditions on Lanier Drive, but would increase delay on Langston Chapel Road.

The intersection would be an overall level of service of C as a Three-Way Stop, and each leg of the intersection would also be a level of service C.

Converting the intersection to a Three-Way Stop would also provide some safety benefits for the intersection as well. Each leg of the intersection has approximately the same traffic volume.

As Bulloch County Public Works and Engineering moves forward this week to converting the intersection to a Three-Way Stop, all appropriate signage and striping will be installed.  Use extra caution at this intersection and prepare for the possibility of delays.

The intersection is planned to be converted into a roundabout at a later date.
