Four Statesboro police officers are being commended for their professionalism and efforts after saving a gunshot victim earlier this year.

Officers APO Scott, APO Hardin, APO Shepherd, and OFC Wright were recently presented with Lifesaving Awards from the Statesboro Police Department.

On Jan. 25, the four officers were dispatched to a shooting that occurred at an apartment complex. Upon arrival, APOs Shepherd and Hardin located a man crawling between two cars and bleeding heavily.

The officers quickly assessed the man's injuries and discovered he had been shot multiple times. The victim was bleeding particularly heavily from a leg wound that had likely severed an artery.

APO Scott and OFC Wright also arrived and the four officers applied critical first aid, including the application of a tourniquet to slow the bleeding. Once EMS arrived at the scene they took over care of the victim, who ultimately survived.

According to the Statesboro Police Department, the officers remained calm and used their training to perform life saving measures. Had they not located the victim so quickly, or stopped the bleeding so efficiently, it is likely this man would have died.

As a result of their actions on Jan. 25, all four officers have been presented with Lifesaving Awards.
