The old Boyd's BBQ building on Northside Drive is now home to the Sports Bar Grill & Lounge. The new restaurant's owner, Otejia Hughes, is excited to bring another restaurant to her hometown, serving not only soul food but also sports bar fare. She knows that this choice will bring her success.

"The soft opening did more than I thought it would, even without the new sign being up."

This is Hughes's second restaurant opening. She opened her first restaurant, Sports Talk, in Stillmore, Georgia, four years ago.

With Sports Bar, Hughes says she is offering something a little different to the Statesboro community, noting that the atmosphere will be unique. The restaurant opened on February 1 and has a calming and enjoyable environment. Hughes looks forward to locals filling each table to enjoy some good, soulful food.

The menu of the Sports Bar Gill & Lounge features rotating specials each day. Special entrees include fried or baked chicken, fried or baked pork chops, stew beef, fried or BBQ ribs, and more. On the side, customers can enjoy squash casserole, macaroni and cheese, yams, and collard greens, just to name a few choices.

In addition, the regular menu includes sandwiches, hotdogs, seafood, wings, a salad bar, and a kids menu. They have one dish that is a customer favorite, already.

"We have loaded chicken fries, which includes fries, cheddar cheese, chicken, special sauce, and the option of vegetables."

Hughes said she was motivated to open the restaurant because she loves working for herself. She invites everyone to come out and enjoy some great food at 2390 Northside Drive, Monday-Saturday from 11am-9pm and Sundays from 11am-6pm. In the future, there will be a breakfast buffet, karaoke, and more.
