Shooting victim discovered during late-night traffic stop in Statesboro

A routine traffic stop by Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies early Saturday morning uncovered a shooting victim on Lanier Drive. The driver, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was discovered during a road safety check and was airlifted to Memorial Health in Savannah for treatment.

A routine traffic stop on Lanier Drive in the City took a dramatic turn early Saturday morning, when Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies discovered a shooting victim in the vehicle they had stopped.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on August 17, 2024. Deputies were conducting a road safety check when they stopped a vehicle exiting a neighborhood. Upon inspection, they found the male driver suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Despite his serious injuries, the man managed to provide a brief statement to Statesboro Police Department detectives before being airlifted to Memorial Health in Savannah for treatment.

According to the Statesboro Police Department, investigators believe the shooting took place at a different location on Lanier Drive.  It appears the victim then drove himself to the area of the traffic stop, seeking help.

The investigation is ongoing and authorities are appealing to the community for any information that might be helpful in determining the circumstances surrounding this shooting.
