Update: Police believe Missing Candler County Mother and Daughter are in Puerto Rico

UPDATE: Police believe that the missing mom and daughter may be in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Anyone with contact with them are asked to contact Lyons PD at 912-526-3638. A Candler County mother and her 7 year old daughter, with Statesboro connections, have been missing since Friday, March 29th. They were last seen in Lyons, Georgia. Authorities are asking for anyone with information on them to please report it to Lyons PD or your local police department. Click on the picture to read more.

Upddate 4/4/24: According to Jerri Goodman with the Metter AdvertiserLyons Police Chief Wesley Walker informed them that his department has learned that Wendy Salter purchased airline tickets for herself and daughter Stella in Orlando, FL, and flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico. "We believe she got off the plane there," he said. "She may still be in the area or may have taken another flight. At this point, that is all we know.

"Our objective right now is to find both the mother and daughter and make sure they are safe, especially the child, and return her to her father. We are utilizing all resources, federal, state and local, and we are working closely with the FBI and GBI.

"We are asking the public if they have family or friends in the San Juan area to please reach out and pass along photos. If anyone sees them, please contact the FBI or call the Lyons Police Department locally 912-526-3638."

Initial story

Wendy Salter of Candler County and daughter Stella were reported missing on Tuesday morning, April 2, 2024. They were last seen in Lyons on Friday, March 29. 

The last contact made with Wendy Powell Salter, 45, and her daughter Stella, 7, was on Friday, March 29, 2024 when Wendy picked up Stella in Lyons, Georgia.

Wendy is believed to be traveling in a 2007 Gold Volvo with a tag GEE 777.  All phone records are being reviewed to determine a known location. 

Salter's cell phone was last pinged on Wednesday, April 3 from the Orlando, Florida area.  There was also a Facebook post made to Salter's Facebook page on Tuesday, April 2nd.

Wendy is a resident of Candler County and the Candler County Sheriff's department is assisting the Lyons Police Department in the search for them.  John Miles, Candler County Sheriff confirmed to Grice Connect on Wednesday evening April 3rd that they are still missing and they are supporting the Lyons Police Department in any way that they can.

Stella is a student at Cotton Rose dance studio in Statesboro, Georgia.  Many of Wendy and Stella's friends in Statesboro have been sharing their pictures on social media as well and assisting where they can in helping locate the mother and daughter.

The investigation is still ongoing and is being assisted by local and state agencies.
