The Averitt Center for the Arts is thrilled to announce the upcoming solo art show, "Black In Bloom," featuring the remarkable works of analog collage and installation artist Nancey B. Price. The exhibition will be held in the main gallery of the Averitt Center for the Arts in downtown Statesboro and will provide an immersive exploration of Price's seven-year artistic journey, where flowers and gardens become poignant symbols of resilience, comfort, and healing.

Price’s "Black In Bloom" is a profound meditation on her extensive use of flowers and gardens in her art throughout her career. Renowned for her mastery of analog collage, Price transcends the traditional boundaries of art to convey a message that goes beyond aesthetics. Through the delicate interplay of intricate cutouts and thoughtfully arranged installations, Price's art serves as a vehicle to navigate the complexities of being Black in America.

In a society marked by the challenges of racism, misogyny, and homophobia, "Black in Bloom" emerges as a visual testament to the artist's personal experiences and her exploration of human resilience. Price ingeniously employs flowers not merely as decorative elements but as transformative agents that soften the harshness of life's struggles. Her characters find solace and strength in the embrace of blossoms and vegetation, highlighting the power of nature to heal and uplift.

The exhibition is a rare opportunity to witness Price's evolution as an artist over the span of seven years. "Black In Bloom" invites viewers to engage with her art up close, offering a captivating journey through her creative process, techniques, and the deeper significance of her work. With a blend of intricate collage pieces and immersive installations, the show promises to transport visitors into Price's artistic universe.

The opening reception for "Black In Bloom" will take place on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 5:30 p.m. with an artist talk scheduled at 6 p.m. This reception provides an exclusive opportunity to meet the artist and gain insight into the inspiration behind her captivating creations. The exhibition will run from January 11 to March 1, inviting art enthusiasts, community members, and visitors to immerse themselves in Nancey B. Price's extraordinary artistic vision.
