Ministry Milestone: Rosaland King becomes ordained evangelist

Rosaland King, who spent her childhood between Portal and Twin City, continues her 30-year faith journey by becoming an ordained minister at God's Greater Mission in Brooklet.

Rosaland King is closing out 2023 with a new role: she has recently been ordained as an evangelist at her church, God’s Greater Mission, in Brooklet. This was something that was nearly 30 years in the making, and a position that King had the experience to fill.

King spent her childhood between Portal and Twin City, and started attending her church at the age of 28.

“I asked the Lord to save me by the time I was 30, and He did just that, one Friday - I will never forget it,” King remembers. “I went and I got saved that night.”

King, a mother and grandmother to nine granddaughters, has served in practically every area of the church since that Friday night that changed her life.

“I always wanted to do the Lord’s will, so I started out, first I was in Sunday School, been a secretary, then I was an usher, and a missionary,” King recalls. “Then the Lord kept blessing me and I wound up being an evangelist.”

King’s missionary work took place within Bulloch County in an effort to improve her community. This included visiting the sick and bringing communion to the homebound and/or hospital bound, and providing prayer wherever needed. In addition, she prepared communion and sang in the choir. Having served in various capacities within her congregation, King was readying herself for her current position. Her dedication paid off, and she took her faith journey to the next level.

“You’ve got to be devoted,” King says. “Wherever the Lord wants me to work, I’ll work.”

When her pastor broached the idea of becoming ordained, King replied with the mantra she lives by: “Whatever the Lord wants me to do, I’ll do it. Wherever He sends me, that’s where I’ll go.”

King's family, including her two daughters Ros Roberson and Stacey Grant, was in attendance for King's momentous milestone.

King’s new role as an ordained evangelist will allow her to expand her role with regard to preaching and partner with other churches in Statesboro and beyond. In closing, she has a message of inspiration for those who hope to follow a similar path:

“Be led by the Holy Spirit and let the Lord lead and guide you,” King muses. “If He’s the head of your life, you’re no more yourself; you belong to Him, so just continue to go out and do whatever He desires for you to do because it’s not about yourself; it’s about Almighty God.”
