Take a hike! Georgia State Parks will host the traditional First Day Hike again this year, on January 1, 2024.
Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites are hoping you’ll kick off 2024 with a hike.
In partnership with America’s State Parks, the New Year’s First Day Hike allows individuals and families to welcome the coming year in the outdoors, exercising and connecting with nature.
“Distance and difficulty vary from park to park, but all hikes aim to create a fun experience for the whole family,” Georgia State Parks said.
“People are invited to savor the beauty of Georgia’s State Parks natural resources and be inspired to take advantage of these local treasures throughout the year.”
Those who join a ranger-led First Day Hike will receive a free sticker. See hike information for our closest parks below.

What better way to start out the New Year than a beautiful easy guided hike down our wooded trails through the park and Camp Lawton? Hikers will pass unique lime sinks and then along the lakeside before making the stroll back to the Visitor's Center. You can choose to complete the first 1.5 miles or hike the entire route for a rewarding 3 miles. $5 parking. 478-982-1660. |

First Day Hike - join us at 10 am for a hike on the first day of 2024. We will walk the 3 mile trail past the Mill House, if you would like to do a shorter trail there is the .5 mile trail near the boat ramp. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash. $5 parking. 478-763-2759. |
