On December 8, 2022, Governor Brian Kemp announced he would yet again extend the state's fuel tax suspension. The extension was to run until Jan. 10, 2023, and is now set to expire.

In December, Kemp indicated that this would be the final extension.

"I'm going to be signing the executive order to continue this suspension through January 10th, and then we're going to transition away from that temporary program," he said in a press conference.

Drivers can expect to see gas prices rise approximately 29 cents per gallon for regular fuel and 33 cents per gallon on diesel when the suspension expires on the 10th. Official tax figures are available here.

Since the temporary suspension of the state fuel tax was implemented, Georgia’s average gas price has consistently remained one of the lowest in the nation.

According to AAA, the current national average gas price is $3.28 per gallon, while Georgia's current average price is $2.81 per gallon. Bulloch County's average price is just slightly below the state average at $2.795 per gallon. (Figures up to date as of January 9, 2023).
