East Georgia Regional Medical Center fights hunger through its "Jars of Love" Peanut Butter Drive

The "Jars of Love" peanut butter drive collected 1,525 jars (or 1,770 pounds!) for Christian Social Ministry's Food Pantry.

East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) along with other community members joined efforts to fight hunger by participating in the second annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive benefiting Christian Social Ministry’s Food Pantry.

Peanut butter is a sought after item for food banks because of its high nutritional value and long shelf life. Yet, it is one of the least donated items. The Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive success was appropriately announced on National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day, April 2nd. 1,525 jars or 1,770 pounds of peanut butter were collected through the second annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive.

“We recognize the impact hunger has on an individual’s health and wellbeing, and we want to help those in our community who are struggling with food insecurity,” said Stephen Pennington, CEO, EGRMC. “An estimated 15.4% of people in Statesboro Bulloch County are facing food insecurity. Our Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive is one great way to partner with community members to reduce hunger in our area.”

"The peanut butter drive that EGRMC did for the Christian Social Ministries Food Pantry was a huge supporting effort on their part," stated John Long at Christian Social Ministries. "It will go a long way to bring a quality food item into the homes of so many struggling durning these times of economic stress."
