This week, U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff announced fire safety upgrades to protect Georgia families.
Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock are delivering new Federal resources to strengthen local Fire Departments and upgrade public safety through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program and Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Program.
Fannin, Emanuel, Atkinson, Union, Grady, Gilmer Counties; Statesboro, Roswell, Cleveland, Sparta; and the Sandy Cross Volunteer Fire Department will receive Federal funding through the AFG Operations and Safety program, which provides funding for professional training, wellness and fitness programs, equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), or modifications to facilities.
Lamar, Treutlen, Emanuel, Polk, and Haralson Counties will receive Federal funding through the AFG Vehicle Acquisition program, which provides funding to purchase new vehicles.
The City of Statesboro and Newton County will receive funding through the Fire Prevention and Safety program, which provides Federal funding for fire prevention education and training, fire code enforcement, fire/arson investigation, firefighter safety and health programming, strategic national projects, prevention efforts, or research and development.
The town of Toomsboro and the Allentown Volunteer Fire Department will receive Federal Funding through the Department of Homeland Security’s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program to recruit and retain new firefighters.
Funding awards to the City of Statesboro include:
- $40,909.09 for Operation and Safety programming
- $8,095.23 for Fire Prevention and Safety programming
“Firefighters across Georgia put their lives on the line to keep families safe,” Sen. Ossoff said. “Senator Warnock and I will never stop championing Georgia’s heroic fire departments, and these resources will help them respond to emergencies that threaten lives and property.”
“Firefighters are some of the most selfless public servants in our communities, and ensuring they have the equipment and resources to do their jobs is how we can best express our gratitude for their service,” said Senator Reverend Warnock. “Senator Ossoff and I are proud to secure these federal funds for fire departments across Georgia so they can continue keeping our communities safe.”
