The Bailey Boys -- Kingston and Knowledge

In partnership with The Eichholz Law Firm, the family of Kingston and Knowledge Bailey is hosting a car seat giveaway in honor and memory of the boys and their mother, Shatasha Fields, who all passed away following a vehicle accident in August of 2023.

Through this charitable giveaway, the family wants to ensure that all children in our community are properly restrained when riding in a passenger vehicle. They have collected car seat donations for a variety of ages and invite community members to register to be eligible for a free seat.

The boys' paternal grandmother, Valerie Bailey-Hearns, shared this message with us.

"In memory of Knowledge, Kingston, and Shatasha, I will be hosting the first annual Bailey Boys Car Seat Donation Drive. This event will help raise awareness of children being properly secured in car seats while riding in passenger vehicles. While researching I found out that since 2018, more than 400 children in Georgia who were involved in crashes were saved from serious injury or death by the proper use of car seats and booster seats, and educating their parents on how important it is for everyone in a vehicle to be properly restrained.

I feel it is important to keep their memory alive and one way I can do this is by making sure children have adequate car seats. ‘According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car seats reduce fatal injuries by 71 percent among infants and by 54 percent among children ages 1 to 4 years in passenger cars. Car seats offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash, and they are most effective when installed and used correctly. Nearly three out of every four car seats are not used properly, placing children at unnecessary risk.’

These heart-wrenching statistics hit home to me and definitely conveys why this event is so important."

Recipients will be selected at random from all registrations. Those receiving a seat will get a text confirmation that they have been chosen, and pickup will be available in Statesboro or Savannah. CLICK HERE to register.

The giveaway will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 10am-1pm, and in addition to the seats, volunteers will provide installation and safety information. Recipients are asked to bring the child who will be using the seat, if possible, for fitting purposes.

The family is still accepting donations of new car seats and booster seats, as well. You can purchase a seat for any age and drop it off at Sav-A-Lot (1870 Northside Dr E, Statesboro, GA) or Pat-A-Cake Learning Academy (4 W 54th St, Savannah, GA). You can also shop from the Walmart wishlist here and ship the carseat directly to the family.
