108 wreaths placed as community celebrates Wreaths Across America

National Wreaths Across America Day took place on Saturday, December 16, in more than 4,200 participating locations across the country. A local ceremony was held at the Brooklet City Cemetery, where local residents covered Veteran graves with handmade wreaths. The national event provided an opportunity for local communities to gather and say thank you to those who have served and sacrificed for our freedom.

National Wreaths Across America Day took place on Saturday, December 16, in more than 4,200 participating locations across the country.

This number of locations, which includes Arlington National Cemetery, is more than 500 above last year’s total.

Thanks to the U.S. Military Vets M/C GA8 Statesboro Blues Chapter along with the American Legion Dextor Allen Post 90 in Statesboro, one of the newest sites this year was the Brooklet City Cemetery located at 104 Church Street in Brooklet, GA.

A midday ceremony was held at the Brooklet City Cemetery where locals covered veterans' graves with handmade wreaths.

"I grew up here in Brooklet and wanted to do my part as a Marine Corps Veteran," said Zachery Davis with the U.S. Military Vets M/C GA8 Statesboro Blues Chapter.

"My reason for doing this is to honor my veteran brothers and sisters, and to teach the next generation about the meaning of freedom. This was my first year doing Wreaths Across America at the Brooklet Cemetery, and I'm grateful to the different local organizations who participated today. There are 108 wreaths being put out at this location today, and I look forward to expanding the event throughout Bulloch County next year.
