Rotary Club of Statesboro awards 18 Service Above Self Scholarships

The Rotary Club of Statesboro has selected 18 high school seniors as recipients of the 2024 Service Above Self Scholarships. The $1,000 scholarships will be used to fund their college educations.

At the April 24, 2024, noon meeting of The Rotary Club of Statesboro at Forest Heights Country Club, the eighteen recipients of the club’s 2024 Service Above Self Scholarships were announced. 

The recipients each spoke briefly about their college choices and possible career plans, as well as sharing their high school service activities. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Rotarian Steve Healy coordinates the scholarship awards annually.

"We award these scholarships annually based on their scholastic achievement and community services following Rotary's mission of Service above Self," Healy said. "It is important to know that each of these recipients are already serving their churches, schools, and communities. We also take consideration of those students helping parents with special family circumstances and needs."

The recipients, their current high schools, and chosen colleges are:  

Bulloch Academy

  • Valerie Jenkins (UGA)

  • Will Ellis (UGA)

Southeast Bulloch High School

  • Anna Wellman (UGA)
  • Hudson Bosley (UGA)
  • Destiny Coleman (Kennesaw State)
  • Ava King (UGA)
  • William Nelson (UGA)
  • Audrey Thomas (UGA)
  • Carter Bowman (Emmanuel University)
  • Harrison Story (GA Southern)

Statesboro High School

Bill Bowen and Michelle Davis served with Healy in selecting the recipients. This year, 25 students applied, and 18 were selected. 

"I echo what Steve said, these students give us hope for the future. The things that you want to accomplish and your high goals are impressive," said Bob Olliff, President, Statesboro Rotary Club. "We wish you much luck and success in your future. Parents, we congratulate you on all you have poured into these remarkable children. This is one of our favorite programs of the year."
