The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board is searching for an energetic and enthusiastic individual to join our team based in Sault Ste. Marie as an Accounting Clerk within the Corporate Services Department. The primary function of the Accounting Clerk is to coordinate the maintenance of statistical and financial records by inputting financial data from various sources to the General Ledger system while ensuring accountability and responsibility for Social Services as directed.

Key duties and responsibilities include:
• Coordinate the maintenance of statistical and financial record keeping, supporting service delivery.
• Gather, analyze and input data to ensure appropriate recording of all Social Services Divisional expenses. This includes analyzing data, tracking expenses, preparing reports, posting journal entries, and reconciling various programs across the organization.
• Process Accounts Payable, issue purchase orders, and manage the corporate credit cards for the organization
• Prepare cheques and electronic payments for the DSSMSSAB through the various banks and send for review and approval by the Manager of Finance
• Prepare the monthly reconciliation of the OW Program Social Assistance bank account
• Manage repayments and reimbursements from clients, law offices and government agencies with the assistance of the Ontario Works Case Managers and Family Support Workers
• Prepares, posts, deposits and reconciles funds receiving pertaining to the Social Assistance Management System (SAMS)
• Track and prepare reports, both statistical and financial, for the Manager of Finance and other Managers as required
• Work with the Housing Programs Division to maintain the payment and amortization spreadsheet and post in the general ledger for the Investment in Affordable Housing Program
• Investigate and gather financial information in response to external Audit Confirmations
• Control and distribute petty cash funds for the organization
• Prepare various year-end audit working papers
• Actively participate in meetings as requested by the immediate supervisor
• Communicate with financial intuitions and outside agencies
• Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Social Services’ health and safety policy and procedures and applicable Provincial legislation listed therein
• Adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, local policies and practices relating to a healthy workplace
• Ability to communicate financial and relevant information and material with those at various levels of accounting literacy.
• Demonstrated proficiency with current spreadsheet and accounting software.
• Sound knowledge of financial systems and its reporting capabilities consistent with GAAP and PSAB guidelines
• Proficiency in Excel with advanced spreadsheet skills (sensitivity analysis, forecasting, statistical analyses, NAV & capital budgeting, for example)
• Proficiency in navigating computerized financial models

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate in an effective and tactful manner, contribute routinely as a team member, organize time to maximize contribution and possess a sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office environment. Additional qualifications for this position include:

• Community College diploma in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Minimum one (1) year accounting experience preferably in a municipal setting.
• Experience of Municipal/Provincial funding arrangements an asset.
• Proficiency in both official languages is an asset.
