Behaviour Specialist

GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The nehiyaw waskawiniwêw Behavioural Specialist will provide resources, training, and assistance to educators to effectively identify, address and minimize challenging behaviours in young children as a result of enhanced physical, cognitive, or behavioural needs. Provides leadership in developing behavioural planning and consultation services in collaboration with Onchaminahos School and Kihew Asiniy Education Staff, parents, and community. Will lead behavioural programming in one-to-one therapy, group therapy based on the principles of nehiyawwin and functions within the requirements of Onheiiskwapwin, Saddle Lake Education Authority and Onihcikiskwapiwin Education Law Beliefs, Vision, regulations, policies and procedures.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop individualized behaviour intervention plans based on assessment data.
- Work cooperatively with instructional staff and front-line staff (EAs) to define personnel needs regarding behavioural management.
- Plan and monitor the implementation of program aspects and recommend program adaptations accordingly.
- Plan guidelines and make appropriate recommendations to Principal and Vice -Principal.
- Lead innovation in teaching and learning by keeping abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction and leadership.
- Guide instructional staff and front-line staff in evaluating and selecting instructional strategies and materials to meet student learning needs.
- Ensure the use of technology in the teaching and learning process.
- Use time, resources, and materials to support the accomplishment of educational goals.
- Provide initial and on-going assessments and progress with regular updates to the child's customized plan.
- Provide training to front-line staff in implementing child's customized plan and on behaviour management techniques with regular follow-up.
- Stay updated on the latest behavioural intervention techniques.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree and/or College Diploma in a related field
- Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.
- At least three years of experience.
- Valid driver's license and own transportation
