University Tire sold, closed for renovations

For over three decades University Tire served our community. The business has been sold and renovations should begin soon by the new owners.
University Tire has been sold

University Tire, located at 1723 Northside Drive East in Statesboro, closed suddenly on April 28th.  Loyal and long time University Tire customers have been reaching out to Grice Connect stunned to see it closed and asking for more information.

University Tire had operated in Statesboro for over three decades before it closed on April 28th.  Grice Connect has reached out to former employees and the new owners to determine why the popular shop closed.

A former employee shared that Mavis Tire acquired the business from the longtime owner. As a condition of the sale, they were not allowed to announce the sale publicly prior to the store closing.

We understand that all of the employees have been offered positions with Mavis Tire and were offered the opportunity to work in other stores during the renovations.

The Grice Connect team has made multiple attempts to talk with Mavis representatives. At the time this story was published, we have not received responses to questions emailed last week regarding Mavis' acquisition and entry into the Statesboro market.

It is our understanding that a full renovation of the store is planned by Mavis, but we do not have a timeline on the renovation nor when the store will officially reopen under the Mavis banner.

Mavis is a national tire chain operating stores in 21 states according to their website.
