The 2021-2022 ONE Series comes to a close on April 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Emma Kelly Theater with Tasheina Canty-White.

Deeply rooted in gospel music, Tasheina is also a classically trained soprano. She is skilled in genres that range from traditional and contemporary gospel, American popular music, to classical and art Songs. She holds a deep passion for spirituals, anthems, and hymns, both a capella and accompanied, as they best showcase her soulful, angelic soprano virtues. Often called an ‘uplifter,’  her audiences experience the joy and elation she feels towards her music.

A native of Statesboro, Tasheina’s gift has been cultivated at home and afar. She began singing with her mother Cynthia, a gospel pianist and vocalist, at the age of three. Cynthia began training Tasheina as the only child in an all-adult choir at St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church of Metter. As a young adult, Tasheina studied voice under the auspices of Dr. Gregory Broughton at the University of Georgia and Dr. Andrea Price of Piedmont College. She holds a Bachelor’s of Music in Music Therapy and a Master’s of Arts in Music Education.

Tasheina joins her mother and sister to form a dynamic trio, The Canty Singers, as they perform both contemporary and traditional gospel, and spirituals throughout the Southeast. They have released a single, “Ooh Jesus,” and she looks forward to completing a solo album project of original songs and spirituals in the near future.

Tasheina is currently an elementary school music teacher and she writes original children’s musicals for her students. She is also worship leader for Pastor Francys Johnson at Magnolia and Mt. Moriah Baptist Churches. Her most accomplished title is mother. She is the mother of two amazing sons, Tyler Aaron and Trenton Andrew.
