The federal Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects its commitment to reducing overdoses and overdose deaths by collecting unneeded medications, which can often become a gateway to addiction.

The Bulloch Alcohol and Drug Council is hosting a Take Back Day drop-off site at Empowher Women's Fitness on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from 9-11am. Empowher is located at 1553 Northside Dr. E., Statesboro. They will host another drop-off event on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 180 Fitness from 3-6pm. 180 is located at 520 Fair Rd., Suite 280, Statesboro.

The Take Back Day not only encourages individuals to remove unneeded medications from their homes, but it also provides an opportunity to reflect on the opioid epidemic and learn about the resources available to help combat it.

Unused prescription drugs often find their way into the wrong hands, which can have dire consequences for individuals, families, and communities. By collecting these medications, the community can help prevent medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

The Take Back Day provides a safe and anonymous way for people to dispose of unneeded medications. Residents can visit their local drop-off site to safely and anonymously dispose of unneeded medications.
