Amy Prince is a hometown hero, although the humble mom of three would never describe herself this way. Born at Fort Stewart to her Army veteran mother, Prince was raised in Statesboro. She credits God and her deep affection for humanity as the forces that propel her.
"I absolutely love people," she said.
In 2024, Mayor Jonathan McCollar publicly recognized Prince for her military contributions with a Key to the City.
"It hit a little different because it came from my hometown, my city," she shared. "It was more personal."
Prince's remarkable Army career spanned more than 24 years. Her decision to retire and return to Bulloch County was driven by a personal mission: to care for her ailing grandparents. This act of compassion brought her back to the community that instilled in her a profound sense of connection. Prince fondly remembers a childhood where the Statesboro village looked out for one another.
"Everything was community-based . . . nobody was a stranger," she says.
This deeply rooted belief in collective support continues to shape her aspirations. With her military days behind her, Prince is channeling her dedication into future endeavors for Statesboro. While she already contributes to various local events—often without public recognition—her primary focus centers around affordable housing. She has already acquired two lots with the ambitious goal of building homes for families in need. Prince acknowledges the challenges, particularly with land surveyors, but remains persistent.
"I'm gonna make it happen," she asserted.
Beyond housing, Prince is a strong advocate for community-led initiatives. She champions the idea of more nonprofit organizations stepping up to address local needs, rather than solely relying on city government. Her involvement with her cousin Trayalia Prince's nonprofit, Save the Youth Movement, where Prince sits on the board, exemplifies this commitment.
"Statesboro needs more nonprofit organizations that put forth the needs of the city," Prince muses.
For Prince, the key to the city wasn't just a recognition of past service, but a validation that fuels her future endeavors. Her quiet acts of generosity, from clearing school debt for young adults to providing essential supplies like laptops, underscore her belief in giving back. Prince embodies a spirit of unwavering dedication, continuing to serve her community with the same passion and commitment she displayed throughout her distinguished military career.
