Herman Richardson

Herman Edward Richardson, age 83, of Dawsonville, GA, passed away on July 17, 2024 after a short illness. Born on August 7, 1940, in Hamilton, Ohio, Herman was the son of Clifford and Louise Marie Keller Richardson. He was one of seven children, growing up alongside his siblings Clifford Arkee, Hugh Elbert, Robert Allen, John Peter, Harold Lewis, and Donna Jean. Herman completed his education in Ohio and enlisted in the US Navy and served his country with honor and dedication.

Herman married Cathy Allen in 1985, gaining a daughter, Jessica Waters, and moved to Leefield, where he built many cherished memories. A dedicated truck driver for over 30 years, Herman worked for Kraft, US Foods, and Alliant Food Services, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment. Beyond his professional life, Herman passionately served his community as a volunteer firefighter and chief of the Leefield Fire Department for many years. Herman retired in 2004 and moved to Dawsonville where he lived with his sister Donna.

Pops is survived by his daughter Jessica (Marty) Waters; his grandsons Alan (Rachel) Waters, Thomas (Lacey) Waters, a granddaughter April (Chip) Heck, his great-grandchildren Keith, Holli, and T.J. Heck, his sister Donna Bolton; and his brothers Bob, Pete, and Babe Richardson. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Arkee and Hughie, and his grandson Corey Waters.

For those who knew Herman, he would always respond to their question of “how are you?” by saying, “mean and miserable.” He was neither of those things but always got a laugh. He loved to laugh, play the lottery, play games on his iPad. Herman will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
