Traffic stop in Statesboro leads to meth bust, identity theft investigation and multiple arrests

Bulloch County Sheriff’s Deputy Joseph Shannon, while on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with no tag. This vehicle was stopped at the intersection of South College and Mikell Street. Contact was made with the driver who was identified as Joshua Andrew Weaver. During the stop Deputy Walter French deployed his K-9 “Axel” for an open-air sniff of the vehicle. K-9 “Axel” responded with a positive alert for the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle.

“Axel’s” response prompted a search of the vehicle which yielded a quantity of methamphetamine and Schedule II controlled substance located within. During the search, numerous personal identification documents i.e. drivers’ licenses, and personal checks, belonging to a multitude of victims were also located in the vehicle. Weaver was placed under arrest and charged accordingly.

Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Division and the Crime Suppression Team were contacted and opened an investigation into this matter. The investigation led to additional arrests of Dale Curtis Wigand and Kristie Marie Hunt. Charges for each are listed below.

Joshua Andrew Weaver

1. 1 count of Possession of Methamphetamine -Felony

2. 1 count of Possession and Schedule II with intent to distribute -Felony

3. 1 count of Possession of Schedule II -Felony

4. 1 count of Drugs not in original container – Misdamenor

5. 1 count of Possession and Use of Drug Related Object - Misdemeanor

6. 1 count of Expired Registration - Misdemeanor

7. 3 counts of Forgey 3rd Degree - Felony

8. 18 counts of Identity Fraud - Felony

9. 3 counts of Identity Theft – Felony

10. 1 count of Manufacture, Sale, Distribute False I.D. Documents – Felony

11. 1 count of Forgery 4th Degree - Felony

Dale Curtis Wigand

1. 1 count of Possession of Methamphetamine -Felony

2. 1 count of Possession and Use of Drug Related Object – Misdemeanor

Kriste Marie Hunt

1. 1 count of Possession of Methamphetamine - Felony

2. 1 count of Possession and Use of Drug Related Object – Misdemeanor

Sheriff Brown would like to commend Deputy Shannon for his proactivity in conducting the traffic stop and both the Investigative Divisions for their pursuit of justice in issuing criminal warrants on the 3 individuals responsible for this criminal activity.
