A popular Statesboro restaurant was forced to close its doors Friday evening after a kitchen fire prompted an emergency response from local authorities.
The Statesboro Fire Department was dispatched to Chili's Grill & Bar, located at 435 Commerce Drive, around 7:00 p.m. following a 911 call reporting a roof fire and building evacuation.
Upon arrival, the first engine on the scene reported visible smoke coming from the roof. The source of the fire was located in the kitchen area. Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the flames within minutes, preventing the blaze from spreading further.
While the fire itself was quickly put out, the restaurant sustained heavy smoke throughout. Fire crews remained on site for more than an hour to perform a thorough overhaul of the building, ensuring that all hot spots were extinguished.
The restaurant will remain closed for the evening, and it is unclear when it will reopen. Statesboro Police and Bulloch County EMS also responded to assist with the incident.
No injuries were reported to either patrons or staff.
