SPD investigating a homicide leaving one dead after shooting

UPDATE 9:00 PM 11/30:  The suspect remains at large however Mike Broadhead, SPD Police Chief said, "We are getting great cooperation from the public and are making good progress on the case and are collecting useful evidence."  The deceased has been identified.

SPD is grateful for the communities help.  Detectives spent the evening processing the scene and following various leads. It is believed that the homicide was a witnessed event and detectives are asking for the public’s help in gathering information concerning the offender. Statesboro Police Department (SPD) is investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, November 30, 2023 in the City.

Bulloch County 911 dispatched SPD and Bulloch County EMS at 3:15 PM to a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Success Court located off of Johnson Street.  When the first SPD officers arrived the discovered the victim,  Antawan Strickland, (39, Johnson Street, Statesboro) in the driveway of a residence with multiple gunshot wounds.  The victims family have been notified of his death.

Bulloch County EMS transported the male to EGRMC in critical condition where he succumbed to his injuries.

Shooting occured on Success Court

According to Mike Broadhead, SPD Chief they are investigating the homicide of a male who is approximately 39 years of age.  

He was shot and then the suspect fled on foot down Johnson street toward Peachtree street.  

The scene is secure but the suspect is not in custody at this time.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a gray t-shirt.
