Around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, a Statesboro teenager accidentally drove a pickup truck through the front entrance of Tropical Smoothie Café at 31 Tormenta Way in the Publix shopping center.
Authorities say the driver was attempting to park when they mistakenly accelerated, sending the truck through the glass doors of the restaurant. Statesboro Police Department and Statesboro Fire Department responded to the scene.
Fortunately, no one inside or outside the building was injured.
Firefighters remained on site after the initial response to ensure there were no structural or safety hazards to the building. The restaurant confirmed that it will remain closed Friday, but plans to reopen Saturday with drive-thru service only.
Tropical Smoothie Café staff also noted that this is the second time a vehicle has accidentally struck the store.
