Lucy the poochie dog and little guardian, a rescue love story

Lucy moving to Statesboro with her family.

Lucy, a spirited Lhasa Apso once known as Blizzard (or Lizzy at the rescue), was love at first sight for my husband. She wasn’t our first rescue, but she quickly stole his heart. The goal was  simple: find a small dog to help my husband stay active with daily walks.

Ironically, Lucy turned the tables - he trained her to walk the route and return on his command!

Though not your typical “man’s dog,” Lucy adored my husband and stayed fiercely loyal. After his passing, she shifted her devotion to me, becoming my constant companion and protector.

Lucy, a beloved family member for 18 years. Michele LeBlanc

Playfully renamed  “Lucifer” due to her fierce growl and sassy attitude, she had a soft spot—for men in shorts with hairy legs, of all things!

Lucy lived a full 18 years, relocating with me to Statesboro.

There, she found new joy as a beloved playmate to my grandsons, often spotted lounging on toy train tracks and sneaking extra treats.

Her story is one of love, loyalty, and the quiet magic of rescue dogs. Lucy didn’t just find a home—she made one better.
