Keep Statesboro-Bulloch Beautiful Board members hosted a social event at the Statesboro Community Garden on Tuesday, July 23, inviting locals to talk with master gardeners and environmental enthusiasts.
The Community Garden is home to dozens of raised beds and in-ground plots that community members are able to rent for one year at a time. The 4ft x 12ft raised beds cost $25 annually and the 15ft x 30ft ground plots are $50. Interested renters can find more information HERE.
The raised bed gardens are watered by a sprinkler system daily, and gardeners are obliged to perform regular maintenance and upkeep on their plots.
Coordinator of KSBB, Charly Kinship, explained that the group would like to make improvements to the gardening area, including replacing the pebble walkway with grasses and pruning the overgrowth of old gardens.
he picked some okra, beans and peppers from his plot during the social, explaining how the produce should be harvested before it passes its peak ripeness, and becomes less tender.
