Children's Vegetable Garden begins March 7 at the Botanic Garden; Register now

Children's Vegetable Garden begins March 7 at the Botanic Garden, Register Now. | The Botanic Garden at Georgia Southern

The spring session of the Children’s Vegetable Garden at the Botanic Garden at Georgia Southern will soon begin.

This is a free, weekly educational program for children in kindergarten through 5th grade, held in the fall and spring of each year.

The group will meet on Thursdays from 4-5pm, beginning March 7th and running through May 2nd. Each week, children will have the opportunity to work with garden educators to plant, water, fertilize, pick, and eat the produce in the garden. Tasting is an important part of the Children’s Garden!

Garden Educator Kathy Tucker works with Children's Garden participants to harvest corn

In previous years, young gardeners have grown produce such as turnips, corn, cabbage, kale, tomatoes, peppers, and berries. Each session provides not only a chance to get their hands dirty in the garden but also the opportunity to learn about plant and environmental sciences.

This spring's program theme is “Super Sprouts and Veggie Heroes,” and children will discover what makes plants our heroes.

While there is no charge for children to participate, participants must be registered and donations are welcome.
