VIDEO: Statesboro Police and DA rule Connection shooting death self defense

The facts of the investigation support a finding that Chapman’s death resulted from an act of self-defense by another party. No charges will therefore be brought against the individual who fired the fatal shots according to SPD.

The Statesboro Police Department investigation into the shooting death of Larry Chapman, which began on September 1, 2023 at the Connection Apartments, on Stambuck Lane, has continued throughout the month of September. Multiple individuals were interviewed and all of the physical evidence examined. Detectives consulted with attorneys of the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit’s District Attorney’s Office regarding their findings.

The facts of the investigation support a finding that Chapman’s death resulted from an act of self-defense by another party. No charges will therefore be brought against the individual who fired the fatal shots.

The shooting

At 9:00 PM on Friday, September 1, 2023 SPD and Bulloch EMS were dispatched to a shooting at the Connection Apartments located at 2000 Stambuck Lane.  When officers arrived on the scene they discovered a male victim Larry Maurice Chapman (20, Savannah, Ga) on a stairway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered aid until EMS arrived. 

Bulloch County EMS transported the victim to East Georgia Regional Medical Center where he died.
