VIDEO: Statesboro Police investigating a shooting death on Stambuck Lane

UPDATE 3:54 PM 9/2/23: SPD has released the deceased victim's name. The shooting occurred on Saturday night at an apartment complex on Stambuck Lane. Read story below for more information.

Update 9/2/23 3:54 PM: SPD has identified the deceased male as Larry Maurice Chapman (20, Savannah, Ga).  on a stairway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Upon arriving, officers located the male on a stairway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  Officers immediately rendered aid until EMS arrived. 

The individual who fired the shots has been identified and interviewed along with other individuals inside of the apartment at the time of the shooting.  The incident does not appear to be random in nature and was specific to that one apartment in the complex.  The investigation is now focused on the circumstances surrounding the shooting and what charges, if any, are appropriate.

Further information will be released as the case progresses. 

Update 9/2/20 9:00 AM:  The shooting victim has died.  The shooting occurred inside an apartment in the complex and all involved parties have been identified and interviewed.  Preliminary investigations by SPD indicates the shooter was inside his residence and acted in self defense.  No arrest have been made at this time.

Statesboro Police Department (SPD) officers and investigators are investigating a shooting at an apartment complex off of Stambuck Lane.

At 9:00 PM on Friday, September 1, 2023 SPD and Bulloch EMS were dispatched to a shooting at the Connection Apartments located at 2000 Stambuck Lane.  When officers arrived on the scene they discovered a male victim who had been shot. Bulloch County EMS transported the victim to East Georgia Regional Medical Center.  His condition is unknown at the time of the story.

  

Statesboro Police Chief Mike Broadhead has confirmed the shooting and said that the suspect is at large.  Investigators will be on the scene for several hours processing the crime scene.
