Game Notes

  • Georgia Southern begins its final road trip of the regular season at Marshall on Thursday. The contest is set to tip off at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ and the Georgia Southern Sports Network.
  • It's the second meeting between the teams this season. GS topped Marshall 81-76 in Hanner Fieldhouse Jan. 5.
  • Marshall is tied for second in the Sun Belt standings, while the Eagles are tied for seventh. The top-4 seeds earn byes in the upcoming Sun Belt Tournament.
  • The Eagles are in a stretch in which they finish the regular season with four of six contests at home. GS is 2-3 in its last five and coming off a 68-53 home win over Arkansas State Saturday.
  • Seven Eagles are scoring seven or more points a game, and only leading scorer Andrei Savrasov takes more than 10 shots a game (11.1/gm). Six different Eagles have led the team in scoring in a game this season.
  • The Eagles have notched single-digit turnovers in 10 games. GS ranks sixth in the Sun Belt in turnover margin (1.9) and third in the league in least turnovers (11.3/gm).
  • Savrasov has posted double-digit rebounds in each of his last four games and ranks ninth (7.4/gm) in the Sun Belt in rebounding. Carlos Curry ranks 11th (7.2).
  • Savrasov has notched double-doubles in his last three games, becoming the first Eagle to do so since Matthew Fields in 2008.
  • Savrasov ranks fourth in field goal percentage (.492) and 11th in steals (1.4/gm), while Jalen Finch is 13th in steals (1.4/gm) and eighth in assists (3.6/gm). 
  • Finch has 97 assists, and the last Eagle to record 100 assists in a season was Tookie Brown, who posted 154 in 2018-19. Finch is third in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.20).
  • GS is 29-1 in its last 30 games when shooting 50% or better from the floor. The Eagles lost 94-87 at Louisiana Jan. 28 despite shooting 56.3%.
  • GS has won its last four games that were decided by one point.
  • The Eagles are 3-9 on the road this season and 4-9 away from home (road and neutral site games).
  • Marshall is 4-1 in its last five and coming off an 88-77 win at Georgia State last Saturday.
  • The Thundering Herd rank 14th in the country and first in the league in scoring (82.1 ppg) and fourth in the nation in assists (18.1/gm).
  • Taevion Kinsey (21.8 ppg) and Andrew Taylor (19.6 ppg) rank first and third in the Sun Belt in scoring. Kinsey is second in assists (5.4/gm), and Taylor ranks third (4.9/gm). 
  • Marshall is 13-2 at home this season. The Thundering Herd is 21-4 overall and has tied the most wins during the tenure of head coach Dan D'Antoni.
