GS Eagles: Men’s golf maintains sixth place after two rounds at NCAA Salem Regional

Wilson Andress fired a 68, and the Georgia Southern men's golf counters shot 5-under on their last three holes to finish with a 279 for the second straight day at the NCAA Salem Regional Tuesday at the Cliffs at Keowee Falls.

The Eagles (-18) are in sixth, five shots back of Northern Illinois (-23) in fifth. The top five teams and the top individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Finals, which will be played May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Arkansas (-39) followed up a 22-under par round Monday by shooting 17-under today and has a seven-stroke lead over Georgia Tech (-32), which shot 22-under today. North Carolina (-25) and New Mexico are tied for third, seven strokes ahead of the Eagles. Regional host Clemson (-16) is in seventh, two back of Georgia Southern, while Texas A&M (-12) is tied with San Diego State for eighth. 

Ryan Burnett (-13) of North Carolina followed Monday's 63 with a 68 to maintain the individual lead by a stoke over Clemson's Andrew Swanson (-12), who shot 65 today. Andress (-7) is in a five-way tie for eighth.

Ben Carr fired a 69, while Mason Williams and Parker Claxton each shot 71 as all four Eagle counters finished under par. 

The Eagles began the round on the 10th hole, and Andress birdied 12, 14 and 18 to post a 33 on the back 9. The fifth-year senior rolled in four birdies on the front. 
 
Carr made three birdies on the back 9 and shot 34 on the side, and the fifth-year senior birdied two of his final four holes. Williams made five birdies on the front, and the fifth-year senior birdied his final three holes of the day. 

Claxton birdied four out of five holes to finish the back 9, and the freshman birdied two of his final three holes coming in.
