Marvin William Grimm

March 18, 1947 - September 13, 2022

Mr. Marvin William Grimm, age 75, died Monday, September 12th, at his residence under the care of Regency Southern Care Hospice.

Marvin was born in Saginaw, Michigan to the late William Grimm and Blanche Hoffman, but grew up in Bridge Port, Michigan. He graduated from Bridge Port High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Corpsman.

He entered Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corp 3rd Battalion 5th Marines 1st Marines Division. While in Vietnam, Marvin was twice awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained from combat in South Vietnam. He also received the Navy Achievement Medal with “V” device while treating wounded Marines while under enemy fire. That kind of bravery & devotion is worthy of respect. While in Bridge Port, he was a member and President of the Bridge Port Jaycees and also a member and chairman of the Bridge Port Planning Committee for many years.

Before moving to Statesboro, Marvin lived in Greenwood, South Carolina, and was a member and President of the Greenwood Sertome Club. He received many awards including the Distinguished Service Award and Club Achievement Award. Marvin later moved to Bulloch County and joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, serving as Head Elder & President of the congregation. Marvin was a current member of the Dexter Allen American Legion-Post 90 service in various capacities including Commander for three years.

He was a board member of the Portal Heritage Society as well. Marvin also was self-employed and made surgical instruments for Striyker, worked for Frito Lay division of Pepsi Company. He also served as an Animal Control Office with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department. Marvin loved fishing and spending time outdoors, but more importantly, he loved his country, his God, and his family.

Marvin is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry Grimm; and a sister, Diana Grimm.
He is survived by his wife Terri Morris Grimm of Portal; a son, Eric Grimm of Michigan; a daughter, Christina Grimm of Michigan; three stepsons, Brandon (Ginger) Brannen of Rocky Ford, Eric Brannen of Garfield, and Glen Alan Brannen of Barbersville, WV; and five grandchildren, Charleigh, Evie, Levin Brannen of Rocky Ford and Kennedy and Max Brannen of Greenwood, SC. He is also survived by a brother, Harold Grimm of Michigan and a brother-in-law, Loyd Morris (Pam) of Statesboro. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive visitors from 10:00am until 11:30am on Thursday at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
The funeral service will follow in the Chapel of Joiner-Anderson officiated by Rev. Sam Clay and Lonnie Ellis.

Pallbearers will be Loyd Morris, Alex Morris, Eric Brannen, Brandon Brannen, and Lonnie Ellis. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Dexter Allen American Legion-Post 90 and the Portal Heritage Society.

Burial, with military rites, will follow at Lake Cemetery in Metter, GA.
