On Monday, June 30th, 2025, Gary Joseph DeLong passed away peacefully at the age of 66 in Statesboro, GA. Born, December 12th, 1958, in Central Falls, Rhode Island, Gary lived a life defined by his dedication to family, his community, and his passions.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-nine years, Patricia DeLong, and their two sons, Thomas and Joseph DeLong. He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren, Scarlett, Willow, and Evelyn DeLong, as well as his sister Deborah Anderson (Ken). He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger Eugene DeLong and Joan DeLong.
A talented Construction Engineer, Gary dedicated 31 years to Hargray Communications. His professionalism and commitment were mirrored in his service to his country as a member of the Army National Guard.
Beyond his career and military service, Gary was a prominent figure within his community. He was an active and dedicated member of Connection Church, where he found joy in teaching 5th and 6th graders. He volunteered at 7th Mile Farm in Statesboro and was an enthusiastic member of the Imago Dei motorcycle club. His love for sports was apparent in his roles as an umpire and referee for baseball and football, as well as his leadership role as the Booster Club President of Bluffton High School, in South Carolina.
A fervent supporter of Clemson Football, Gary's passion for the sport was matched only by his love for his family. Known for his warm heart and generous spirit, Gary’s legacy of love and service will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Monday, July 7th, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Connection Church in Statesboro, GA. This will be followed by a funeral service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. For those who wish to pay their final respects, a graveside service will take place at Long Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Midville, GA, at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to 7th Mile Farm, reflecting Gary's commitment to causes close to his heart.
Gary's life will be lovingly remembered and celebrated by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
