Franklin Delano Ford, 86, of Sylvania passed at the East Georgia Regional Hospital on Friday, April 14, 2023.
Franklin was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Maryland to the late Wayne Franklin and Josephine Balanovic Ford. He was employed with the United States Postal Service in Greenbelt, MD, where he worked his way from an entry level position and retired as Postmaster. After retirement, he and his wife returned to her home of Screven County where he became a faithful member of the Buck Creek United Methodist Church, member of the Wesley Bible Class, and served in any capacity he was able. He enjoyed yard sales and loved volunteering with Southeastern Trade and Auction. He was a also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 1528. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Christopher Ford, step-son, Roy Dean Beard, and sister-in-law, Carolyn June Ford.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Betty Hurst Ford of Sylvania; daughter, Kimberley (David Dandlin) Welch; son, John Franklin Ford, all of West Virginia; step-daughter, Diane (Thad) Simmons of Rocky Ford, and Tonya (Randy) Williams; grandchildren, Stefinie (Zac) Aversa, Jamie Welch, all of W. VA, Amelia Jane (Mark) Simmons-Kendzierski of Rocky Ford, Ryan Williams of Sylvania, and Kyle Williams of N. Wilkesboro, NC; great-grandchildren, Adelinia Aversa, Carter Aversa, and Bryce Parrish; brothers, William A. Ford, all of Sylvania and Wayne Douglas (Dee) Ford; a half sister, Kathleen Kennedy, all of Maryland; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on April 17, 2023 at 11:00am in the Screven Chapel of Joiner Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Carroll Gay officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior.
Interment will follow in the Screven Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Larry Whitehead, Ricky Scott, Nick Smith, David Long, Lin Hurst, Tony Malott, Zach Aversa, Joe Boddiford, Scott Wells, and Randy Williams.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Wesley Bible Class.
