Statesboro will have its own representative in the nation's capital today as Van Rhodes, a 2024 graduate of Statesboro High School (SHS) and current cadet at The Citadel, participates in the Army's 250th birthday parade in Washington, D.C. Rhodes is among a select group of Citadel cadets invited to march in this historic event.

During his time at Statesboro High, Rhodes was a highly accomplished student and athlete. He served as the JROTC executive officer and captained multiple teams, including the raider, drill, swim, track, and cross country teams. His talents also extended to the stage, where he was a standout actor in the school's theater productions.

Currently a rising sophomore at The Citadel, Rhodes holds the rank of cadet corporal and serves as a battalion armorer. He is pursuing a degree in quantum mechanical engineering on a full-ride scholarship. His aspirations include commissioning as a U.S. Army aviator, with an ultimate goal of becoming an astronaut.

Rhodes' participation in the Army's 250th birthday parade marks a significant achievement for the young leader from Statesboro. His dedication and accomplishments serve as an inspiration to the community. The parade is a national celebration honoring the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.
