On Monday, May 26, 2025, Splash in the Boro Waterpark closed its wave pool attraction due to an "issue affecting the water." They clarified that it is not a waterborne issue, so there is no threat of illness to anyone who has recently used the pool. The rest of the park remains open.
Bulloch County Recreation and Parks management issued the following statement on Tuesday evening:
On Monday, May 26, 2025, a patron at the Splash in the Boro wave pool alerted a lifeguard to feeling a potential "electric shock" while in the water. In accordance with safety protocols, lifeguards immediately cleared the pool and contacted management via radio. Staff promptly responded to the scene and, due to a subsequent radio report of another patron feeling unwell, contacted EMS enroute.
Out of an abundance of caution, the wave pool was closed for the remainder of the day pending a professional safety assessment. Upon arrival, EMS evaluated five patrons and cleared everyone on scene; no individuals required transportation to the hospital. Splash in the Boro staff provided assistance to the patrons both before and after EMS arrived.
The Statesboro Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to investigate a possible electrical current in the wave pool. They were directed to the electrical rooms, where they disconnected the power supply and advised the maintenance supervisor to contact a licensed electrician for a comprehensive inspection and any necessary repairs.
On Monday, the facility contacted certified electricians, who arrived on-site at 8:00 AM on Tuesday morning. Georgia Power also conducted an independent inspection. Following a thorough investigation, both parties concluded that all electrical systems were operating within standard levels. At this time, the wave pool will remain closed until further notice.
