Multi car crash has Hwy. 80 temporarily closed west of Brooklet

UPDATE 8:20 AM: GSP and DOT have reopened Hwy. 80 East of Brooklet.

Georgia Statesboro Patrol and Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputies have temporarily closed Hwy., 80 East on the east side of Brooklet due to a serious, what was initially thought to be, multi-car crash on Friday, May 19, 2023.

Georgia DOT is assisting with the road closure and detour.  DOT is estimating the road will be closed until possibly 11:00 AM while members of the GSP SCRT investigate the crash.  Please plan an alternate route if you need to travel in this area this morning.

We now know that there were two separate crashes involving four vehicles.  The fatal crash is unrelated to the first crash.  They were both in the same area.

Georgia State Patrol Troopers, Bulloch Count Sheriff's Deputies, Bulloch County EMS and Bulloch Fire responded to the multi car accident at Hwy. 80 East and Wood Yard Road a little after 5 AM, Friday morning.

Bulloch County EMS has transported multiple patients to EGRMC.  Medical Helicopters were requested to the scene, but were unable to fly due to weather conditions.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.

Grice Connect will provide more details as they become available.
